Fan & Chassis Relay

Fan & Chassis Relay

The fan is marked Comex F14-12C004-07S and operates on 12 VDC. Note that when I write 12 VDC it should be understood this is a nominal specification and the actual operating voltage is more like 13.8 VDC.

The fan turns on at 80° C and off at 70° C (this may vary by map, however). This 10-degree spread is called hysteresis and is implemented in the ECU so the fan does not cycle on and off constantly around the setpoint.

The relay (marked Guilera P.N. 02 0401) is a 12 -volt, 25- amp unit with Form-A contacts (SPST) that is normally open. It is socketed and has a coil resistance of 120 ohms. It is located inside the airbox on older bikes and on an upper frame rail near the fan on newer bikes.
